The Kinesthetic Sense
Hello again,
First of all I want to apologize for the delay in publishing this post. I hope you enjoyed the Auditory account.
I know how you yearn for more information on brain and mind expansion in your personal development growth.
Believe me, it was unavoidable, otherwise I would have tried my darndest not to let you down.
I would have kept in touch, touched base.
I know how you must have felt, logging on to this blog or checking your RSS feed to make sure it was working as nothing was coming through from me.
That I wasn’t making contact was frustrating, wasn’t it? You couldn’t really put your finger on it, but something was missing in your life?
Apart from the fact I meant what I said above, the preceding 4 sentences were written using kinesthetic language.
See if you can pick out the words or phrases that are kinesthetic.
In future postings I’ll illustrate with examples the power of the words we use to ignite responses in ourselves and other people. I used this opportunity to introduce the concept to you.
Right, now we’ll look at the third sense, Kinesthetic, which with Visual and Auditory are the 3 most significant ones people use. It was originally spelt kinaesthetic, but in time, the ‘a ‘ has been dropped and it’s become kinesthetic.
Kinesthetic largely has to do with how you ‘feel’ about someone or something.
It has to do with trusting your feelings and emotions, rather than depending on the visual or auditory data that you encounter in your daily experiences and the impact these make on your neurology.
Again, in a future posting I’ll give you a little quiz to do so that you can do see what your sensory preferences are. I’ll also then give you details on the characteristics of each group and how to identify what people’s preferences are to gain maximum rapport when communicating with them, either verbally or non-verbally.
Suffice to say for the moment, that kinesthetic people, when they get in touch* with things, do so with emotional reactions utilizing emotional responses.
For example (say each uppercase words with more feeling than the others):
• I just LOVE that outfit on you.
• This material FEELS sooooooooooooooooooooooo soft. (See [Visual - V] how long that sentences takes to say?); (Hear [Auditory - A] how long that sentence takes to say?]; (Doesn’t it just make you sick [Kinesthetic - K], how long it takes to say?)
• Don’t you just HATE when that happens to you?
• TOUCH this material…………..it feels so CUDDLY and SOFT.
Can you see what I mean? (Visual)
I can just hear you laughing by this stage. (Auditory)
You’re thinking: I’ll never be able to speak or think again without the VAK (Visual, Auditory, Kinesthetic) analyzing popping into my head. (BTW – I just did a ‘mind read’ – I’ll tell you what that means another time)
Isn’t all this the most AMAZING stuff? Once you start with these areas, you are DELICIOUSLY doomed for the rest of your life pursuing it.
Now you can get a glimpse of why I’m so passionate about it.
It’s more than life transforming – IT’S GIVING YOU LIFE and empowering others.
Make sure you put all that you read here into practice. Bit by bit by bit.
Some things will gel with you and be easier, do those; there is no right or wrong order.
Get comfortable with those.
Then extend yourself and incorporate other techniques.
Gradually expand on the ones you already know – you’ll start to wonder:
Where have I been hiding myself all this time?
Are you impressed?*
Is it making an impact? *
Now, for those of you who are not kinesthetic or have little empathy with kinesthetic sense data, a lot of what I have written will not resonate (A) with you. In actual fact, you won’t have liked it too much at all. That’s okay.
On a daily basis, we interact with diverse people responding to different VAK sensory systems.
In order to show these people the respect they deserve, we need to know what makes them tick, by using some words and behaviours that make them feel as though they matter.
Understanding the VAK preferred representational (sensory) systems is one of the important components to building Rapport.
I’ve gone a bit deeper into this posting, binding Visual and Auditory with the Kinesthetic as these three are the major representational styles.
The last two are Olfactory and Gustatory.
Ps. Answer to: See if you can pick out the words or phrases that are kinesthetic.
1. believe me
2. let you down
3. kept in touch
4. touched base
5. felt
6. making contact
7. frustrating
8. put your finger on
9. was missing
Pps. The 3 * are also kinesthetic

Hey. I love this post though I am kinda confuse sometimes (which one is what you want to say and which one is your example)
But it’s fun.
Hi Raymond,
Examples I usually put in “…..”, inverted commas.
But, hey, please tell what’s not clear, and I’ll make a better job of it.
Thanks for pointing that out.
Cheers,
Gloria
Awesome post. You are delving into more of the depths of NLP, and I love it
Thanks Shafir,
I love the depths of NLP also. My life has been so enriched as a result of this discipline.
And I love to share this with children and adults alike.
More is planned.
Cheers,
Gloria
